Willie Rennie (born September 27, 1967) is the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Dunfermline and West Fife.

Early life

Rennie was born in Fife and grew up in Strathmiglo. His family ran the village shop and still live there. He went to the University of Paisley.

Career before parliament

While a student at the University of Paisley, Rennie ran the Scottish Young Liberal Democrats and after graduation went on to work for the party in Cornwall. He was Chief Executive of the Scottish Liberal Democrats from 1997 to 2001. After the creation of the Scottish Parliament, he served as the party's chief of staff in Parliament.

Prior to his election, he worked for a small Scottish communications firm, helping advise the Royal Society of Chemistry and Asthma UK.

Election and Parliamentary Career

Labour MP Rachel Squire died in January 2006. At the subsequent by-election held on February 9, 2006 Willie overturned a huge Labour majority to win the seat.

He is a member of the Liberal Democrat's shadow defence team, and is chair of their parliamentary campaigns team. He was named as a Lib Dem parliamentary whip in 2008.

Interests

He is a keen runner and is a member of Dunfermline's Carnegie Harriers. He was also runner-up in the 2006 Scottish Coal-Carrying Championships held in Kelty.

Willie was one of the 50 MPs who ran a mile to raise money for sport relief[1] finishing close behind the winner, David Davis.

Family

He lives in the Perth & Kinross region, near the Fife town of Kelty, with his wife Janet and their two young sons.
