This is a WikiProject, a collaboration area and open group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of a particular topic, or to organizing some internal Wikipedia process.
Please see the Guide to WikiProjects and the Directory of WikiProjects for more information.
Welcome to the Museums WikiProject! A chunk of this text has been stolen borrowed under GFDL ;) from other Wiki Projects under the idea that they're a lot more familiar with the process than I am, which isn't hard!
Goals
Improve Wikipedia's coverage of museums.
Improve quality of existing articles
Expand smaller museums in non-English dominant countries where articles are little more than a sentence.
Create guidelines for articles about museums.
Scope
The project covers all articles about museums in a wide range of disciplines and locations throughout the world. By member consensus, it does not include aquaria, herbaria, zoos and other non-museum 'collections' because these are well-covered in other projects.
John Carter (talk) 21:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC) - This is the first project I was ever told I was myself "within the scope of". I know I'm getting on in years, but still. :)
Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk·contribs) -Count me in, I won't be actively concentrating on museums but will be creating some articles on museums in places in the developing world in coordination with my other work, particularly Africa and Asia and countries of Central Europe.
Doncram (talk·contribs) - Ship museums, historic house museums, other historic site museums. Have been participating, may as well join. :) doncram (talk) 17:42, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Noroton (talk) 11:51, 9 May 2008 (UTC) - I'm interested in lists and categories of museums, and in occasionally creating articles on small museums
BusterD (talk·contribs) - Another NYC-area museum member with a love for science museums and historical societies. BusterD (talk) 12:25, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
MRacer (talk·contribs) - former museum volunteer and fine artist with an interest in art, world history and local history subjects as they relate here.
nrswanson (talk·contribs) - Frequent world traveler, classical musician, and museum lover.
nicg1883 (talk·contribs) – interested in museum and have created an article on the Holy Jesus Hospital Museum. English.

Assessment
Below is a bot generated table of the assessment process and current status of WikiProject Museums supported articles. The stats are generated automatically every 2-3 days, but they can be updated manually by entering Museums (and replacing Foobar) into the Category box here.
BCBot is in the process of tagging all the articles in the master category list with the project template. If you're aware of newly added categories, or a category that you feel was missed, please add it here rather than to that master list so we can organize a mass-tagging if needed. I have not yet asked a bot to 'watch' any categories and add newly created articles to the project, but I know there are some that do that.
Articles to Create
Depending on how you look at it, we're (un)lucky to have a significant body of articles that need creating. Looking at the predominantly redlinks here:
List of museums International with multiple red links, good place to start

Geograph (for photos in the UK) is really good & all CC licensed so can be used - there is even a simple template {{subst:geograph | image-number | author}} for adding them on upload which marks them for transfer to commons.
