Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Horticulture and Gardening. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.
The Horticulture and Gardening projects aims at enriching and organising wiki content that is related to or important for horticulture and gardening. Subjects include gardens, horticultural practices, plants, animals and pathogens that affect plants and gardens, soil, and so on. Currently, many of the category pages related to this field are in serious disarray.
Please feel free to add your name to this list if you would like to join the project; you are also encouraged to participate in any of area of Wikipedia:WikiProject Horticulture and Gardening that might interest you.
HeirloomGardener (talk·contribs) - I'm a gardener (in case you can't tell by my username)! My main interests are fruits, vegetables, and organic gardening methods.
HelloMojo (talk·contribs) - I have a Diploma of Horticulture, I will help too, but might do more damage than good! lol
There is also a separate list of inactive members that includes those contributors who have not edited for at least six months. If you have returned after a long absence and can't find your name above, it may have been moved there; please feel free to move it back.

This list includes those members of the project who have not edited for at least six months; it is manually updated on a periodic basis. If your name has been moved here, please feel free to move it back to the active members section upon your return.
Lynnathon (talk·contribs) - I am a member of WikiProject Plants and will help where I can.
Plantscience (talk·contribs) - BS horticulture, MS plant science. Willing to help in all aspects of project.
Structure
Formats for articles covered by this project should follow those established in each category. However, some changes might be needed in some of the articles, such as adding culture, pest and disease, hardiness, etc. to plant articles.
Goals
To organise and clean up the related categories, including gardening, horticulture, compost, organic gardening, etc.
To improve pages related to this project.
To add horticultural information to plant articles, including growing conditions, horticultural techniques (as wiki links), pest and disease issues, cultivars, etc.
Projects
Clean up and add to the Organic Gardening category Probably a bit of trawling through the agriculture categories will be needed. There is some concern about having 2 separate pages for organic_horticulture and organic gardening. Also many organic techniques are not well described, and so new pages would be helpful. (Previous discussion here moved to the discussion page).
Pests and Diseases of Garden Plants: Linked lists of particular pests and diseases on the plant articles may be helpful. Perhaps use "Insects and Mites that Feed on this Plant" as the heading. Reciprocally, lists of plant hosts on articles about pests and diseases.
Regional Lists: Regional lists of weeds, garden plants (perhaps by hardiness zones), public gardens, etc. may be useful to those who do garden research on wiki.
Work to improve the horticulture stubs.
Tasks
Clean up and better organize this page.
Work on disambiguation for the genus Chrysanthemum, members and former members of which appear under many names due to recent reclassifications.
Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Wikipedia page. DYN has a 72 hr. time limit from the creation of the article.
Thelocactus - Some information on cultivating and specifically cultivation in non-native areas would be appreciatedCrushacm (talk) 02:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
