Hello and welcome to the WikiProject Computing page! Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to areas or subjects relating to computers , computing and information technology . The goal of this WikiProject is to improve the quality and quantity of information about computing technology available on Wikipedia. This WikiProject aims to organise, expand and improve all Wikipedia's articles on areas or subjects relating to Computers , Computing and Information technology. We have a very broad scope, so we hope to collaborate and communicate with other Wikiprojects that overlap our domain. Our scope lies in : Our goal is to produce detailed, well written and NPOV articles on all topics related to computers. See also: List of computing topics AssessmentThe assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's biography articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Computing}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist. MaintenanceThese editors work to maintain the project page, work groups, subpages, portal, templates etc CollaborationThe project's Collaboration department seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. A single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to featured article standards. The current collaboration article is Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing/Collaboration/Current. Users can also request help improving articles they come across here. OutreachThe outreach department acts as the project's central point of coordination for recruiting new members and maintaining the interest of current participants. Its primary activity is the production of monthly project newsletters; a number of additional programs are either underway or being planned, however. Peer reviewThe peer review department conducts peer reviews of articles on request; this helps to obtain ideas for further improvement by having contributors who may not have previously worked on particular articles examine them. Project members are invited to submit articles to the department in lieu of using the generic peer review process.
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of a wide range of computer-based tools that assist engineers, architects and other design professionals in their design activities. It is the main geometry authoring tool within the Product Lifecycle Management process and involves both software and sometimes special-purpose hardware. Current packages range from 2D vector based drafting systems to 3D solid and surface modellers. CAD is sometimes translated as "computer-assisted", "computer-aided drafting", or a similar phrase. Related acronyms are CADD, which stands for "computer-aided design and drafting", CAID for Computer-aided Industrial Design and CAAD, for "computer-aided architectural design". All these terms are essentially synonymous, but there are a few subtle differences in meaning and application. CAD was originally the three letter acronym for "Computer Aided drafting" as in the early days CAD was really a replacement for the traditional drafting board. But now is the term is often interchanged with "Computer Aided Design" to reflect the fact that modern CAD tools do much more than just drafting.{{Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing/Userbox}}
