Wikipedia:Proposed mergers
This article is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. It uses material from the Wikipedia article "Wikipedia:Proposed_mergers".
This page is an incomplete list of proposed mergers. Anyone may list any article merger proposal here. This is optional, and it does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here. See Category:Merge by month for all pages needing to be merged.
Guidelines
In general, this page should be used primarily to solicit outside feedback regarding mergers (particularly those of a controversial nature), or assistance with difficult or complicated mergers. Brief replies may be posted here, but lengthy discussions should be confined to the talk pages of the articles involved. After articles are merged (or a consensus that the articles should not be merged is reached), please remove them from the list below.
Current listings
Please list new proposals at the top of this month's section. Sign each listing or comment by typing: ~~~~
2008
August 2008
- Merge Muli (India) with Surendranagar as the former contains a very small amount of information about a town within the latter.
- Merge Instant center into Roll center since content of first is all about content of second article. --VanBurenen (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Rule of Two into Sith. The Rule of Two is a ficitonal pedagogical principle with no relevance outside of the Star Wars Sith and is a badly written article in any case.67.159.78.196 (talk) 18:48, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Done. Holy shit, first time I've used one of these little action icons! --EEMIV (talk) 03:59, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Gaelic medium unit into Gaelic medium education. I don't see a need for a seprate article for somthing which can be included on Gaelic medium education page. (MacSteaphain (talk) 16:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC))
- Merge PbNation into Paintball. PbNation is just a forum and a vendor of paintball gear, it does not belong to WP:COMPANIES Discuss here --Itemirus (talk) 08:04, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Wikipedia:Tag team to Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. Discuss here. "Tag teams" are the same as meatpuppets, so merge the content and redirect Wikipedia:Tag team to WP:MEAT. Alun (talk) 11:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Ticket controller (transportation) to Proof-of-payment. The former subject is a form of the latter, and lacks significant coverage and sourcing. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 05:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Leon Phelps to The Ladies Man (2000 film); non-notable fictional character, with the film being his most significant appearance. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 22:01, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge both Apeface and Snapdragon (Transformers) into Horrorcons. The first two articles, about the two Horrorcons individually, are fairly short and overlap in a great deal. The Horrorcons article is minimal. These could very well be served with only a Horrorcons article which would provide descriptions about both Apeface and Snapdragon and a single description of their cartoon and comic appearances. JIP | Talk 11:40, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Done. JIP | Talk 13:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance) into Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests. --WikiWes77 (talk) 03:34, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Link Belt, Pennsylvania into Link Belt (SEPTA station) - Despite a few geographic discrepancies, the Link Belt, PA article appears to be describing the SEPTA station, which already has an article. ----DanTD (talk) 14:44, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Done by me. ----DanTD (talk) 01:00, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Cross-post with Crossposting - two articles on the same topic (the latter is older and better developed, so the former should probably be merged there). Terraxos (talk) 05:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Hodges meteorite into Sylacauga (meteorite) - undo fork by Basilicofresco (10:34, 17 June 2008 (UTC)) - because the Hodges meteorite is simply a fragment of Sylacauga. The fork has created two small articles (one actually a stub) where one would suffice. The scientific and culture/history information could easily exist in one article under two headings. Redirect applicable, of course. Syncopate (talk) 22:31, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Kristi Yamaoka with Cheerleading#Dangers of cheerleading because she is notable for having the event happen to her, and her "bio" article reflects this, having only three lines about her personally in it, and three sections on "the fall". MSJapan (talk) 18:21, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Railtown 1897 State Historic Park into Railtown 1897 and rename as Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. Same location, written with two different names. ----DanTD (talk) 13:04, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge BRIC and BRIMC because BRIMC is simply an extension of BRIC, so it is better placed in a section of BRIC then on it's own page. Saru (talk) 01:44, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Xesko into Francisco Santos. Only one article should exist per notable person, even if the person is notable for more than one thing. --Evb-wiki (talk) 18:40, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
July 2008
- Merge Erech into Uruk. Same city, same historical information. Erech is just a Biblical reference to Uruk, and the Erech infiormation is single source, non-referenced.
Merge Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance) with Wikipedia:Help desk, which serves basically the same purpose. --WikiWes77 (talk) 18:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Computer crime, Cybercrime and Internet crime, articles have alot of overlap and i believe it would be best to have a single article. The discussion at Talk:Computer crime#Merge seems to be stalled and i think there needs to be more input especially a decision on which title to keep. --neon white talk 14:18, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge audioblogging into podcast, the terms are very similar and the difference isn't major enough for the former to have an article. The former may not be notable in its own right, either. Computerjoe's talk 22:48, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Octagon House into Octagon House (disambiguation) in order to reunite Octagon House (disambiguation) with its Revision History which is at Octagon House. An editor has to do this. clariosophic (talk) 12:13, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Viacom Enterprises into Viacom (1971-2005) as the Viacom Enterprises article is basically a re-telling of the Viacom (1971-2005) article. Also, I really don't see the need for users replacing the Viacom (1971-2005) article with the Viacom Enterprises article, as seen in such pages as the Perry Mason (TV series) article. The Green Lantern (talk) 03:04, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Glasses (song) into McCartney (album) because that article is very short. Although already tagged, I will again mention this here. --Gh87 (talk) 20:40, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Don't Cross the River into Homecoming (album) because that article is very short. Although it is tagged already, I will mention this here. --Gh87 (talk) 20:34, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Mechanics of materials with Strength of materials reason being the article is quiet similar with not major changes in the same. Kalivd (talk) 07:31, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Ridwan and Rizwan as these represent only variant transliterations of the same name. Perhaps Ridwan needs to be renamed Ridwan (angel), or perhaps Rizwan needs to be renamed Rizwan (disambiguation). Whatever the solution, the disambiguation page should link to the article about the angel as well as to articles with Redouan, Redouane, Ridwan, Rizvan and Rizwan in their titles (all variant transliterations). I’m not exactly sure how to go about this. Elyaqim (talk) 10:46, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Winter waterspout into Waterspout : Althought winter waterspout are very rare, exept for the season, they physically are produce the same way as any waterspout : strong low level instability. So I don't see the need for a separate article and this article should be integrated as a section into waterspout. Pierre cb (talk) 02:54, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Y Done As no opposition has been voiced Pierre cb (talk) 15:11, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Eastern Settlement and Gardar, Greenland, unless i'm mistaken it's the same thing. Don't know which title is better. Discuss here. --Raminagrobis fr (talk) 18:42, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Nembus into 51 Andromedae. Discussion here Talk:51 Andromedae.--Peccafly-talk-hist 12:45, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Crown Dependency of Forvik with Forewick Holm, the island upon which the former "micronation" is based. Ben MacDuiTalk/Walk 18:31, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

- Umm, where were the discussions setup for these proposed merges? It doesn't appear many (if any) of the steps in WP:MERGE have been followed to produce a reasonable discussion. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 21:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Each merge tag features a link to the pertinent discussion.
Justmeherenow ( ) 23:29, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see that it does now, good. The links were missing when you first put the notice here. It might be helpful if you link the discussion sections directly from this list as is often down down below. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 23:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I will. Thanks!

- But there is no explanation at the discussion points that explains what the proposals are and what your reasons for the proposed merges are. You have pointed to old, different merge discussions, or to pages with no section set up for discussion with your rationale. As it is now, I don't see how people will understand what you are proposing or be able to discuss it, so unless more is added I don't anticipate there will be discussion. A situation where there is no discussion likely doesn't mean there is consensus for or against the proposal - it means they need more information to be able to discuss. Tvoz/talk 00:46, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Re merges involving Dunhams or Soetoros: what's being proposed basically is for these less-notable Dunham–Soetoro family members to be listed together in a new, single article. This can start as a list of the two families' members with each member covered in a sub-section. This would simply involve transferring each article to the new compound article. The article could be left this way, along with a short introduction for the whole article added; or at some point somebody could write a comprehensive introductory narrative that weaves in the histories of all the constituent members, concluding with a final section where all members, spouses and children are grouped together in a list.
Justmeherenow ( ) 10:54, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
On second thought, such a "Wikimacropedic" venture ("organizing stuff according to topic"----as opposed to the more "Wikimicropedic" one of the status quo of there being all bite-size pieces that are alphabetically organized), when applied to an electronic encyclopedia, is maybe as pointless or as cosmetic of a change as rearranging deck chairs on an ocean liner. Justmeherenow ( ) 17:43, 12 July 2008 (UTC) Justmeherenow ( ) 17:25, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

- Same comment as above - needs a clear statement of what you are proposing and what your reasons are, at the place where you are requesting discussion. Tvoz/talk 00:46, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Re Kenyan Obama merges: what's being proposed is to merge the articles for Barack Obama, Sr., Sarah Obama, and Malik Abongo Obama into a single article. It would be similar to the one I've proposed just above for the Dunham-Soetoro families members.
Justmeherenow ( ) 10:54, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Al-Qaeda in Iraq and Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad. The latter article states that it "gradually became popularly known as al-Qaeda in Iraq", and both articles assert that their subjects are led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi; i.e. they are the same organization.-Samuel Tan 07:12, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
All of these pages have been challenged over notability and defended, albeit at times, I would say, unpleasently and abusively by obviously partisan editors, possibly sockpuppeteers. The pages seem to be linked via the edits of one Nick Mallory. They also appear to 'spin off' from Stangroom, Benson and Baggini's magazine, the Philosopher's Magazine, of which its own notability (although greater) is also questionable. The links for Stangroom's and Benson's site are uncheckable - I suggest that an unfollowable link should not be used to justify a page's existence as on the Butterflies and Wheels page. The link was also misdescribed as being to the Independent (daily newspaper in London) whereas apparently it was to a student advertsing supplement published by the Independent group. There are serious weaknesses in the sources being used on the Ophelia Benson page. That TLS review does not exist online, and there must therefore be doubts that is it ever was as described. Publishing books should not be a sufficient criterion for 'notability' as claimed during the Benson 'notability' review. In the UK alone, there are over 100 000 new books a year! It is true that there are 'some public references' of some sort for the books and so on, and hence I suggest a more sensible compromise would be to lump all the pages under one heading. I don't say what it should be but the obvious choice is to use the existing Philosopher's Magazine page as the start, and then detail both Benson and Stangroom's work under it - and perhaps at this point it would make good logical sense to add Julian Baggini's existing page in too. However, as I see the page is protected at the moment, I willnot try to make it part of this more modest proposal! The aim is to make better sense of the presently rather scattered contributions of the editors, while protecting the integrity of the Encyclopedia . Wikisquirrels (talk) 11:39, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

- Merge Bioengineering and Biological Engineering. Both articles cover what is effectively the same topic, it is therefore frivolous to have two. Discussion Here. Gumbacious (talk) 07:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge AT&T 8525, Dopod 838Pro, and Orange SPV M3100 into HTC TyTN. These are all carrier branded versions of the TyTN (also known as the Hermes). Whatever differences they may have could be mentioned in separate sections in HTC TyTN. JCDenton2052 (talk) 19:40, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Koseki, Hukou, and Hoju into Family register These article names are not words found in standard English print dictionaries, and are not proper nouns. They are transliterations of the word for 'family registry' in the Japanese, Chinese, and Korean languages, respectively.--Mak Allen (talk) 05:17, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

*Merge Hartford & New Haven Railroad Depot into Windsor, Connecticut (Amtrak station) or vice-versa. Evidence at this link suggests both locations are one in the same. ----DanTD (talk) 04:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

- Agree. Merged.RaLo18 22:48, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Homebrewing beer into Homebrewing. That latter should subsume the former. In fact, the latter is nearly entirely about homebrewing beer anyway. Llamabr (talk) 18:54, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Jewish identity and Who is a Jew? (discussion.) They cover a lot of the same ground and the former is stub-sized. My preference is to merge them into Jewish identity, as a more encycylopedic name. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 21:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Supervillainess with Supervillain. I'm not that great with wiki-eiditing, but reckon that the redirects on superheroine and heroine set precedents
- Merge Lacken, County Wicklow into Valleymount . This has caused somewhat of a disagrement but it has been suggested due to the fact that Lacken, County Wicklow is a stub article and Lacken, County Wicklow is in the parish of Valleymount and I'm suggesting this as i don't want to start an edditing war.--Hegan (talk) 20:54, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Kansas City Chiefs statistics into Kansas City Chiefs. Per WP:NOT#STATS, as stats page is a long list that needs to be cut down into a selective merge into team page. Wikipedia is not in favor of WP:TRIV as first part of stats page demonstrates. --UWMSports (talk) 19:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Roundup into Glyphosate, as proposed at Talk:Glyphosate#Merge. This doesn't seem especially controversial to me, as they are nearly identical, but there were some heated discussions before. Colchicum (talk) 20:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Blanchard, Bailey, and Lawrence theory controversy into Blanchard, Bailey, and Lawrence theory - (Discuss). Controversy section is a content and or/POV fork. Jokestress (talk) 18:48, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Carlito's Way: Rise to Power into Carlito's Way - (Discuss). Carlito's Way: Rise to Power is a stub and a prequel film which should have started in the main Carlito's Way article. Nreive (talk) 10:10, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
May 2008
- Merge Monarch into Monarchy —(Discuss)— substantially overlapping content --Neutralitytalk 06:40, 31 May 2008 (UTC) Neutralitytalk 06:40, 31 May 2008 (UTC) Request moved from WP:RM. — AjaxSmack 17:18, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge UEFA Badge of Honour back into European Champion Clubs' Cup; the refactoring last month was bold but ill-advised; the content not overlapping with the older article is minimal. jnestorius(talk) 23:13, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Electronic art music into Electronic music. Reasons cited: Duplicate, Overlap. Support for the existence of the electronic art music article amounts to WP:SYN and probable WP:OR. (discussion)
- Merge List of Ancient Mamodo into List of Zatch Bell! characters. There are notable parts of the list of Ancient Mamodo, but don't necessarily merit their own page, and they should be given their own section in the List of Zatch Bell characters. The rest of the ancient mamodo aren't notable and don't need to be listed. AcroX 20:23, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Gun politics in Germany and German Weapons Act into Gun politics in Germany. They adress more or less the same subject and are already almost alike. Gamgee (talk) 15:09, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Dustin Camp and Brian Deneke into Murder of Brian Deneke or similar article. These two individuals are notable only for murdering and being murdered (respectively); their pages should be merged into a single article about the event. Powers T 17:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Chamoli Gopeshwar into Gopeshwar. Both articles refer to the same town; Gopeshwar is the correct name (see the official site) --Lucio Di Madaura (disputationes) 20:23, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Waterloo Hawks all-time roster into Waterloo Hawks. Waterloo Hawks all-time roster is mostly duplicate information that is already on the Waterloo Hawks page. I merged over position and college of each player unto Hawks page, but it has been reverted by User:SportsMaster twice. He has a conflict of interest with the material as he is the author. Can we get some more thoughts in the merger discussion area so we can get this done! Thanks! Talk:Waterloo Hawks all-time roster -GoHuskies9904 (talk) 22:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

- Merge Amnon of Mainz and Amram of Mainz. Both articles refer to the same legend. 23:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge the Austin, Texas#History section to the History of Austin, Texas article. The section in the main article is too long to justify both. --Danorton (talk) 19:04, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Sex and the City (film) into Sex and the City: The Movie. Reasonings have been brought up on Sex and the City: The Movie to keep it as the main page, but users redirected to Sex and the City (film) in the meantime anyways. Have undone the auto redirect and posted Merge tags. Kat Malone (talk) 17:45, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

- Merge British Isles naming dispute with British Isles. Putting the fork into the topic article to aid dispute progress.--Matt Lewis (talk) 00:44, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

- Merge Sports PNF into PNF stretching. Just would like additional comments on this proposed merge (discussion). --ZimZalaBim talk 22:34, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

- Merge Maxwell Show into WMMS (FM). This has been requested for some time. Maxwell Show slightly improved, but not by much. Please put Maxwell Show into a section under WMMS (FM). If merger tags have been removed, it is because a user with a COI has constantly removed them. -GoHuskies9904 (talk) 20:17, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Yahoo! Fantasy Sports into Yahoo! Sports. This has been requested for a couple of months. Users close to articles have not upgraded either to get both to stand alone status. Keep page named Yahoo! Sports with a section for fantasy. Thanks. -GoHuskies9904 (talk) 18:30, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

- Merge Bert (Sesame Street) and Ernie into Bert and Ernie. The two individual character pages repeats a lot of information - and most of that info is already well covered in the duo's shared article. And specific differences between the two can be said on the shared page. If later on enough depth and coverage can be provided for each character the two can be split. See Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) Mr Merge (talk) 23:55, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

- Merge several entries from {{Peanuts}} into List of minor Peanuts characters. Many of the characters appeared only one time in the entire run of the comic strip (not to mention that most of the related articles are unsourced). Anthony Rupert (talk) 05:41, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Merge Chestnut Ridge people and Guineas (ethnic group), same group of people. Mike Nassau (talk) 15:24 , 24 March 2008 (UTC)

- Merge McCandless Method into Stanley McCandless. McCandless method itself is a stub. History meshes well with bio. DJSparky (talk) 17:47, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect Nay Aug Amusement Park with Nay Aug. Amusement park was small and based out of larger Nay Aug Park. Park is now closed and there is very little detail to merit it having its own article. Nay Aug article is more fleshed and is the common name used when referring to park. Amusement park article is also practically orphaned.
- Merge and redirect Curl Curl Beach with Curl Curl, New South Wales. There is very limited info in Curl Curl Beach, which can be mentioned in it's own section within the Curl Curl, New South Wales article. Terovian (talk) 11:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Merge (or redirect) Rodimus to Hot Rod (Transformers). The articles are very nearly identical - the only major difference is in what name they use to introduce the character. It appears that Rodimus was originally a redirect to Hot Rod (Transformers), but then someone had the infinite wisdom to replace it with a copy&paste copy of the latter article. JIP | Talk 07:20, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Manny Ribera, Alex Sosa, and Frank Lopez all merge to Scarface (1983 film); each of these articles contains nothing more than plot summary and none of these characters have enough real-world notability to justify having separate articles. (The protagonist of the film, Tony Montana, is notable enough to have his own article, but the rest are not.) --Hnsampat (talk) 21:28, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- List of English monarchs and List of British monarchs. Discussion see Talk:List of British monarchs. Angus McLellan (Talk) 18:33, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Outside Context Problem to Excession. Discussion. The 1996 Iain M. Banks novel Excession is the origin of this neologism and, so far, the only referenced work on the article. Although Banks' idea may be applicable to cultural anthropology, there is as yet no sign that the term has acquired currency. The merge has been challenged, however, hence this discussion. 11:18, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Downtown Fort William, Ontario to Fort William, Ontario. The former is newly created, and I see no reason to have a separate article on this subject. As a matter of fact, I believe the former should form the latter's very core. --Blanchardb-Me•MyEars•MyMouth-timed 14:26, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Merge (or redirect) Biodiesel processor into Biodiesel production. The processor page was last edited in 2003 and is entirely redundant with the production page. It should be deleted / merged.--E8 (talk) 04:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

- Recycling criticism into recycling. Discussion hasn't lead to consensus and more viewpoints would be welcome.--jwandersTalk 08:48, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Elasticity of a function into Elasticity (economics). It contains little that isn't already in the destination article, and that little would fit well there. Besides, if there can be said to be a mathematical usage of the term elasticity, it's not this one, but rather this one. Discuss here— PaulTanenbaum (talk) 06:28, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Aliens: The Computer Game (Software Studios), Aliens: The Computer Game (Activision), Aliens (1990 video game) to Aliens (computer game) Does slightly different games of the same film licence justify separate articles (three of them subs)? Each game could have their separate section on the merged article. --Nreive (talk) 09:27, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Data disk (computer gaming) to Expansion pack. The former article, which I started since FSM knows when, hasn't ever been significantly expanded. In contrast, the latter article is considerably larger, and even mentions video games. I still dislike lumping computer games and general video games together, but will ignore it for this matter. - Steady state (disambiguation), Steady state (biochemistry), Steady state (chemistry), Steady state (electronics) and Steady state (macroeconomics) all describe, with varying quality, the concept of a Steady state, to which I suggest to merge them. Details at Talk:Steady_state#Merger_proposal. -- Mietchen (talk) 14:34, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
