Welcome to Mirlo Beach, which incorporates Roadanthe, Salvo, and Waves
The Northern border of Waves is generally considered to be the ditch that runs under Highway 12 just South of Resort Rodanthe Drive. The Southern border between Waves and Salvo is more ambiguous. Many long-time residents will point to different spots as the "official line" between Waves and Salvo. Formerly Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo were each supported by their own town Post Office. Today a single Post Office, located in Salvo, serves the entire community and the former lines that separated each community have become more fuzzy in definition.
Living in Waves
The Waves area of Chicamacomico is dominated by campgrounds both large and small as well as numerous rental houses. Bank of the Commonwealth has also recently opened a full service branch in Waves. Bank of the Commonwealth is based out of Norfolk, Virginia started in 1971.
Also located in Waves is the home gallery of local wildlife artist and naturalist, Michael Halminski. His photography has appeared in many exhibits and galleries over the past 30 years and in many wildlife and conservation publications.
