'Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar' (4 May 1919 – 3 April 1988) was an Indian archeologist.

In 1958 Wakankar accidentally discovered the Bhimbetka rock caves. He is considered as the father of rock art in India and established the Wakankar Indological/ Cultural Research Trust [1] in Ujjain, India. In 1975, he was awarded the Padmashree award. He was actively involved with Sanskar Bharati[2].
