I am a structural geologist based in the UK. I did a Masters on the Fracture Mechanics of quartz and a PhD on the formation of shear zones. I continued doing research, particularly on the Devonian basins of Norway and Scotland, until my funding ran out. I started doing consulting work while waiting for that elusive permanent university post to come along. 19 years later I'm still consulting, but I have given up waiting. I've worked mainly on nuclear waste disposal problems and for the oil industry, so no environmental issues at all.
I started contributing to the Wiki in July 2006, concentrating on adding content to structural geology, although I seem to be increasingly straying into Seismotectonics, which apparently gives me another article to write.
