My name is Alan Walker, I'm a 28 year old business consultant who lives in Dundas, Ontario, Canada. Dundas has been my home base for the entirety of my life. I held a secondary residence in Kitchener-Waterloo while I was studying Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
I am an active amateur radio enthusiast, callsign VA3AAL. I prefer windows as my workstation, linux as my server. I grew up in the age of BBS and the 2400 baud pstn modem. While I have some programming experience, my computer expertise is more focussed in the area of systems design and project management.
Politically I promote transparency of government. I seek different qualities in the municipal, provincial and federal politicians I support. I enjoy a good argument, but have little patience for opponents who strive to appeal to fear and greed as opposed to logic.
I introduced a City infobox, which I then filled with cited facts. Further, I was able to convince a local professional photographer to release a skyline picture under the ShareAlike license for use in the article.
As an ongoing project I am re-organizing the article in accordance with other prominent city pages. It has been challenging as this 80 kb article contained little to no sources for the information contained. I have since reduced the size of the article by removing controversial, unreferenced information and splitting large topics into sub articles. Together, with the assistance of other editors, we managed to get the article to GA status in Feb/07.
I have taken photographs for the sub articles which did not contain pictures. The pictures were released under ShareAlike on commons.
I have included many cited sources in the main and sub articles in hopes of encouraging others to do the same, while preserving their existence against AfD.
Managed to convince the Hamilton Public Library to release cited details about the library for the wp article. I have a scheduled meeting with the HPL marketing dept on the 23 of February 2007.
