Thiruverumbur (also spelt as Thiruverambur) is a zone in the city of Tiruchirappalli(Trichy or Tiruchi) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Thiruverumbur had a population of 16,835. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Thiruverumbur has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84%, and female literacy is 72%. In Thiruverumbur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Etymology

The name of Thiruverumbur is derived from the Lord Thiru Erumbeeswarar whose temple is situated atop a hill near Thiruverumbur.

Politics

Thiruverambur assembly constituency is part of Tiruchirappalli (Lok Sabha constituency).[2]
