She was born as Marie Anne de France at the Palais du LouvreParis. She is said to have been the illegitimate daughter of Maria Theresa of Spain (the wife of Louis XIV of France). Her father, called Augustin, had been a gift to the Queen given by François de Vendôme, duc de Beaufort on behalf of the King of Dahomey. Her death was reported on 26 December1664, as a sham and she was said to have been buried at the Royal Basilica of Saint Denis outside the capital. On that day she was secretly sent to Moret-sur-Loing, where she become a nun. It was at the convent of Moret that she died in 1732, having outlived all of her siblings by her mother.
