This article is a well-written account of Sufi lore, but could do with an introduction for lay readers -- the Fana (Islamic term) article would serve that purpose well, I believe.

Grammar & Allah

I suggest that references to "Allah" be changed to God because Allah simply means "the God" in Arabic (contraction of "al Elaah") and is not considered by Sufis to be a particular being outside of God. Most Westerners mistakenly state that Muslims worship Allah, but that is like saying Persians/Iranians worship Sobhaan (the word for God in Persian). I don't want to make the change unilaterally and possibly upset people, but it is not a question of faith; it is a question of linguistics. --Smalek 19:07, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
