A spellcaster in role-playing games refers to a creature capable of casting magic spells.

Dungeons & Dragons

Within the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, there are two main types of magic:

• Arcane magic (Dungeons & Dragons), used by bards, sorcerers and wizards. This type of magic is based on heavy study and formulas
• Divine magic (Dungeons & Dragons), used by clerics, druids, paladins and rangers. This type of casters get their powers from their gods, goddesses or spirits. They are often limited by their gods (A water god may not provide fire spells). In MMORPGs, they are usually healers.
