A Speaking fee is a payment awarded to an individual for speaking at a public event.

Several individuals are able to garner significant earnings in speaking fees or honoraria.

Public scrutiny over speaking fees

• Former president, Bill Clinton, was paid $100,000 to speak at the University of California - Davis. [2]
• Presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani, charged Oklahoma State University $100,000 for a speech -- and $47,000 for the use of a private jet. [3] He netted $11 million in 2006 in book income and in speaking fees, usually on the September 11 theme. [4] ¹
