Lower Shabele (Somali: Shabeellaha Hoose) is an administrative region (gobolka) in southern Somalia. Until 1984, when the regions were reshaped, it was part of the larger Benadir region and its capital was Mogadishu, but is now Marka.
Linguistically, the region is one of the regions with the most diverse of the Somali languages. The majority of the population speak with May-May dialect's Digil version of the Dhoobey area. Also spoken in the region are Af Jido, Af Garre, Af Tuni, Af Reer Marka and Af Reer Barawe as well as standard Maha Tiri Somali and the May-May of the Mirifle.
