Sean R. Parnell (born November 19, 1962, Hanford, California) is the current Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, United States, taking office in 2006 alongside Governor Sarah Palin.

Parnell, an attorney by training, attended Pacific Lutheran University (B.B.A. 1984) and University of Puget Sound School of Law (J.D. 1987). He is admitted to the bar in both Alaska and Washington D.C.

In 1992 Parnell was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives. He served as a member of the House Finance Committee and chaired numerous budget subcommittees. He served in the House for two terms.

Parnell ran for a seat in the state Senate in 1996. There he served on and later co-chaired the Finance Committee as well as being a member of the Energy Council.^[1]

On March 14, 2008, Parnell announced that he would take on embattled 18-term Congressman Don Young in the August 26 Republican Primary.^[2]

Parnell has been endorsed by Gov. Palin,^[3] National Review magazine^[4] and the Club for Growth^[5]

On July 31, 2008, Parnell told the Roll Call newspaper that he will not drop his congressional race aganist Young to run against embattled Senator Ted Stevens, who has been indicted.^[6]

Governor Sarah Palin is frequently mentioned as a possible running-mate for Presidential candidate John McCain. If Palin is nominated and elected Vice President of the United States, Parnell will become governor.
