The Reed Sea (or Sea of Seaweed, Sea of Reeds) is a proposed translation of the biblical phrase Yam Suph (Hebrew: יַם-סוּף ), a phrase traditionally understood to refer to the Red Sea (see I Kings 9:26). In particular, 'Reed Sea' has been suggested as a possible undersanding of Yam Suph in those locations which refer to the Israelite Crossing of the Red/Reed Sea, as told in Exodus 13-15.

Location

Various proposals have been made for the location of this conjectural body of water: One suggestion is that it was a large lake close to the Red Sea, which has since dried up due to the Suez Canal, specifically in the Suez valley next to the Sinai Peninsula and north of the Gulf of Aqaba.citation needed Another suggestion is that the Reed Sea is Sabħat al Bardawīl, a large lagoon on the north coast of the Sinai Peninsula.citation needed
