Sawtooth eels are a family, Serrivomeridae , of eels . They get their name from the saw-like arrangement of their vomerine teeth (inward-slanting teeth attached to the vomer bone in the roof of the mouth).
There are eleven species in two genera:

Crossthroat sawpalate , Serrivomer jesperseni Bauchot-Boutin, 1953 .
Short-tooth sawpalate , Serrivomer lanceolatoides (Schmidt, 1916) .
Samoa sawtooth eel , Serrivomer samoensis Bauchot, 1959 .
Serrivomer schmidti Bauchot-Boutin, 1953 .
Serrivomer sector Garman, 1899 .
