Santander Airport (Parayas) (IATA: SDR, ICAO: LEXJ) is an international airport near Santander, Spain and the only airport of Cantabria. The airport has been extended and refurbished in the last couple of years. In 2007, the airport handled 761,783 passengers and 16,998 flights. A lot more than in 1995, when it hadled only 180,000 passengers. Santander Airport counts with four car rental companies based in the airport: Atesa, Avis, Europcar and Hertz. Currently, Ryanair is the only low-cost airline operating at the airport and it offers a good international service. Air Nostrum operates a wide variety of flights thoughout Spain and one international flight to Amsterdam. Santander hopes to attract more low-cost and non low-cost european airlines in the future. The airport counts with 8 check-in desks, 2 baggage carousels and 5 boarding gates.
