The Santa Ana Municipality is one of the 21 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the eastern Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 10,919.1 The town of Santa Ana is the shire town of the Santa Ana Municipality.2

This amounts to 0.7% of the state's population.3 The municipality's population density is 14.8 people per square mile (9.22/km²).4

Government

The mayor of the Santa Ana Municipality is Gerson Martínez, elected on October 31, 2004 with 40% of the vote.5 He replaced Maximiliano Suquet shortly after the elections.6 The municipality is divided into two parishes; Capital Santa Ana and Pueblo Nuevo.2
