Santa Ana is the name of the 9th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 61.42 km²1, and has a population of 36,9632. The capital city of the canton is Santa Ana.

The triangular-shaped canton is delineated by the Río Virilla on the north and stretches south as it narrows to include a portion of the Cerros de Escazú.

The canton of Santa Ana is subdivided into 6 distritos (districts).

History

The canton was established by law on August 29, 1907.
