Colonel General Safar Akhundbala oglu Abiyev (Azeri: Səfər Axundbala oğlu Əbiyev; born January 27, 1950, Baku) is the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan. In 1971 he finished the Baku Troops Command Academy and in 1981 the command faculty of Frunze Military Academy in Moscow.

He recently threatened Armenia with a war if Armenians continue to control Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions (which are considered as Azerbaijani territories): "As long as Azerbaijani territory is occupied by Armenia, the chance of war is close to 100 percent."^[1]
