He played keyboards, harmonica and melodica on the band’s many hit records. Although not recognized for a very distinctive voice (Davies' voice is more of a raspy, bluesy tenor, as opposed to Roger Hodgson's reedy Jon Anderson/Barry Gibb-likealto-range vocals), he has composed and sung many of Supertramp's most popular songs, like the U.S. Top 20 hit "Goodbye Stranger", "From Now On", "Bloody Well Right", "Ain't Nobody But Me", the U.S. Top 40 hit "My Kind of Lady" and the last Supertramp hit single "Cannonball", which hit #28 in 1985.
Davies currently owns a company, called 'Rick Davies Productions', which is the copyright holder of Supertramp's recordings and name.
He married his wife Sue (who has been Supertramp's manager since 1984) in 1977.
