Ramesses (also commonly spelled "Ramses" pronounced /ˈræmsiːz/ or "Rameses" /ˈræməsiːz/) is the name conventionally given in English transliteration to eleven Egyptianpharaohs of the later New Kingdom period. The name essentially translates as "Born of the sun-god Ra".
