Princess Irina of Romania was born on 28 February 1953, in Lausanne, Switzerland. She is the third daughter of the former King of Romania, Michael I of Romania and his wife Queen Anne of Romania. She married John Kreuger (born Solna, Sweden, 3 August 1945), son of Torsten Kreuger and wife Diana Blanchfleur Beveand,1 on 4 October 1983, in Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona, United States in a civil ceremony, and on 11 February 1984 in a religious ceremony at Holy Trinity Church in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona (some say just Lausanne, 10 December 1983). The couple divorced on 24 November 2003. They had two children:
