CyberLink PowerDVD is a commercial media player for Microsoft Windows and Linux[1]. It supports the viewing of DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray video discs, and can play any format supported by DirectShow. HD DVD support has since been dropped with the release of PowerDVD 8, but it can be re-enabled through a workaround.[1]
PowerDVD is bundled with a variety of PC systems and peripherals (particularly optical drives).[2][3][4][5]
PowerDVD 8 supports hardware acceleration of video decoding, which improves performance on relatively low end systems.[6] Once installed, the PowerDVD filters can be used by other Windows media player software, such as Windows Media Player, Windows Media Centre and Media Player Classic to enable hardware acceleration in those applications. Windows Media Centre requires a patch to enable this.[7]
