Packed red blood cells (PRBCs), also called "packed cells," are a preparation of red blood cells separated from the blood plasma. It is used to treat certain forms of anemia. PRBCs may be leukoreduced, in which white blood cells have been removed form the blood, and can also be irradiated, which is reserved for patients who are immunosuppressed.
