The Pacific Coast Theater of the American Civil War was the military operations in the United States bordering or close to the Pacific Ocean, including the states of California, Oregon, and Nevada and the territories of Washington, Utah, and Idaho.[1] The heaviest fighting was usually between Union troop detachments from California and Confederate sympathizing Indians though, Union and Confederate forces did meet in the theater. Neither side had huge armies in the area, most of it was between small army departments.
