The Viscacha Rat (Octomys mimax) -- or Mountain Viscacha Rat -- is a species of rodent in the Octodontidae family. It is monotypic within the genus Octomys, and is likely ancestral to both Tympanoctomys barrerae and Pipanacoctomys aureus. It is endemic to Chile and Argentina.
