Oak Street is a short street on Chicago's Gold Coast at 1000 North in Chicago's street numbering system , running from 138 east to 648 west in the Near North Side community area of Chicago in Cook County , Illinois , United States . 1 It ends without crossing the North Branch of the Chicago River . West of the river 1000 North is called Augusta Boulevard .
Points of interest
In its eastern part (between Michigan Avenue and Rush Street ), Oak Street is one of Chicago's most prestigious shopping destinations. Unlike nearby Magnificent Mile , which features upscale chain stores and large department stores, it is known for its exquisite boutiques .
Further east it lies between Oak Street Beach and the East Lake Shore Drive Historic District .
