Nyahururu is on the Junction of Nyeri-Rumuruti road and the Nyeri-Nakuru road. Nyahururu is also the highest town in Kenya making it a practical training ground for Kenya's top athletes. Nyahururu has lately become a hub for private schools( popularly called academies) because of availability of land. Such academies includes, Nyahururu elite, Riverbank, Busara Schools, Nyahururu Highway and many others. In addition, Egerton University's Laikipia campus is on the outskirts of Nyahururu town. With the quality education offered by the private schools, most children from this area have been successful in life.
The region around Nyahururu is mainly Agricultural. To the North OL Ngarua is famous for maize while Shamata to the south produces lots of potatoes. Lately, flower farming has brought new life to Nyahururu. Suera Flowers is a pioneer in this venture. The cool temperate weather, land availability and cheap labor may be some of the attractions to flower farming.
Nyahururu is also the home area of the famous safari rally champ Patrick Njiru.
Samuel Wanjirŭ, the Olympic Marathon Record holder and the first Kenyan to win the Marathon at the Olympics, calls Nyahururu home as well. Other notables from Nyahururu are, John Ngŭgĭ , GG Kariuki, among others.
