Nurofen is the brand name of a range of pain-relief medication made by Reckitt Benckiser (The nurofen brand was acquired following Reckitt Benckiser's acquisition of Boots Healthcare in 2005), primarily marketed and sold in the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Australia.1
There are eleven variants of Nurofen which all contain the analgesicibuprofen as the active ingredient, which was developed by the research arm of Boots. Some variants contain other active ingredients, for example Nurofen Cold & Flu contains the non-sedating decongestant pseudoephedrine. Nurofen can help reduce back pain, menstrual pain, fevers or a headache.
There are many types of Nurofen, including Nurofen Plus, Nurofen Forte, Nurofen Cold & Flu, Nurofen For Children, and Nurofen Tension Headache.
Nurofen Plus is a Codeine and Ibuprofen based painreliefmedication made by Boots Healthcare, containing 12.8mg of Codeine and 200mg of Ibuprofen which is an analgesic. Nurofen Plus is the only product in the Nurofen range that contains Codeine.
The original tablet was manufactured in two halves and coated. One half would contain the 12.8mg of Codeine Phosphate and the other half contained 200mg of Ibuprofen. The tablets would be forcefully split and led to recreational use/misuse of Codeine.
