The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi (NHBP) is a federally recognized Potawatomi Indian tribe. The Tribe received its federal recognition on December 19, 1995 and does not yet have any land in federal trust. However, the Tribe was in the process of placing four separate parcels of land totaling 348 acres (1.41 km²) into trust 2006. The name Nottawaseppi in Neshnabémwen (Potawatomi language) means "Huron River."

Huron Potawatomi Indian Reservation

The reservation is located in Athens Township in southwestern Calhoun County in southern Michigan. It has a land area of 129.4 acres (Template:Convert/sqmi km²) and a 2000 census resident population of only 11 persons (nine Native Americans and two whites). The NHBP has communities and properties in or near the towns of Athens, Bradley, and Battle Creek. The Tribe has approximately 400 members spread throughout these communities.

Community

The NHBP is governed by a 5-member tribal council, which includes the following executive officers: chairperson, secretary, treasurer and sergeant at arms. The Tribe's environmental department reports directly to the tribal operations manager and consists of the environmental director and the environmental planner. The department is also in the process of setting up and establishing an Environmental and Natural Resource Regulatory Commission. The environmental department is responsible for establishing environmental ordinances and policies, attending and representing the tribe at environmental meetings of tribal importance, preparing environmental assessments, creation of various environmental management plans, and ensuring compliance with tribal/federal environmental regulations.

The NHBP are not connected with the Iroquoian tribe, Huron.
