The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (Landsorganisasjonen i Norge or LO) is a national trade union center, decidedly the largest and probably the most influential umbrella organization of labour unions in Norway. The 24 national unions affiliated to the LO have more than 830,000 members of a Norwegian population of 4.6 million. The majority of affiliated unions organizes traditional blue collar workers, but the largest affiliate is the Norwegian Municipal Workers' Union. LO is affiliated to the ITUC.
After former international secretary Ingunn Yssen told the press that she had been harassed by Gerd-Liv Valla on January 29th LO got a commission together to study the case. On March 9th the report from the commission was ready and was publisized. It stated that Gerd-Liv Valla had been harassing Yssen on several occasions causing her physical and mental problems. About four hours after the report was given to the LO chiefs, on March 9, 2007, Gerd-Liv Valla resigned from her position as president in LO, proclaiming that she had not broken any laws on labor rights and that she had not harassed anyone.
