North Miami Senior High School (NMSHS), is a secondary school located at 800 NE 137th St in the city of North Miami, Florida, USA. Its principal is Carnell A. White. Mr. White will be replaced when the students transfer into the new building under construction. North Miami Senior High School opened as Edward L. Constance Junior-Senior High School in 1951, with 1,500 students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Another grade was added each year for the next three years. The class of 1955 was the first graduating class. Early in 1955 the name of the school was changed to North Miami Senior High School.1 In the fall of 1955 the 7th, 8th and 9th grades were moved to the new North Miami Junior High School. North Miami's main athletic rival is North Miami Beach Senior High School.
International BaccalaureateSince January 1990, North Miami has offered the IB program. The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly the International Baccalaureate Organization (the name and logo were changed in 2007) is an international non-profit educational foundation, founded in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization administers three programmes for elementary, middle, and high schools which provide the schools with an international curriculum intended to be acceptable to universities around the world. Test scoresNorth Miami Senior High School was given a grade of F by the Florida Department of Education in 2006-2007. In 2005-2006, this school received a D. If North Miami fails to bring the school grade up to a C in the 2007-2008 school year, that will be the 3rd year in a row that it was graded a D or F, meaning that under measures set by the state, drastic measures will be taken. These may include firing/transferring/replacing teachers and administrators, transferring students to other schools or removing funding for extracurricular activities. Student body
The futureThe City of North Miami and the Miami-Dade County School Board have agreed to build a new North Miami High School on the grounds of North Miami Middle School and build a new North Miami Middle on the grounds of North Miami High. Construction has already begun on the New North Miami Senior High School. It should be ready for the 2009-2010 school year.
