Nome is a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway.

Nome was created as a new municipality January 1, 1964 - after the merger of the two old municipalities of Holla and Lunde.

Nome consists of a number of villages, including Lunde, Ulefoss and Svenseid.

The name

The municipality of Nome was created in 1964 - and the name was taken from a lake in the river of Eidselva. The meaning of the name is unknown.

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1989). It is meant to represent the Telemark Canal, which is running through the municipality.
