1987 - Nippon Television's cable news channel, NCN, was launched. [2]
1993 - The mascot character of Nippon TV designed by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli, Inc. , "Nandaro" appeared to commemorate Nippon TV's 40th Anniversary. [2]
July, 2003 - The common name for Japan was changed (日本テレビ, NTV → 日テレ, NIPPON TELEVISION), however "NTV" is still used for overseas.
February 29 , 2004 - The headquarters of Nippon TV moved from Kojimachi to Shiodome.
NTV's television network has been plagued by scandal in recent years, most notably after it was revealed that an NTV producer paid viewers to manipulate TV ratings. Shortly thereafter, he resigned as Chairman. NTV subsequently came under fire for staging part of a news show.
