National Palace Museum of Korea is a national museum of South Korea located in Jung-gu, a central district of Seoul. It is based on the "Korean Imperial Museum" established on September, 1908 where originally located in Changgyeong Palace. On November of the following year, the museum opened to the public. However during the Japanese occupation, the Japanese government downgraded the museum name to "Museum of Yi dynasty" on April, 1938.1 After the liberation, it was named "Deoksugung Museum" in March, 1946. In 1991, Cultural Heritage Administration instituted the museum in Seokjojeon (석조전, Stone Hall) of Deoksu Palace. National Palace Museum of Korea houses over 40,000 artifacts from the palaces of Joseon Dynasty and Korean Empire. It holds 14 National Treasures of South Korea2
