Motril is a town and municipality on the Mediterranean coast in the province of Granada, Spain.

Motril is the second largest town in the province, with a population of 55,078 as of 2004.

A large tradition in production of sugar cane has been discontinued in 2006 after hundreds of years of history.

King Balwin I of Belgium (anglicized version) died during a visit in the Villa Astrida of heart failure in 1993.
