Monster Energy (or simply known as Monster) is an American brand of energy drink manufactured by Monster Beverage Company Inc. of Corona, California, which is owned and operated by Hansen Beverage Company. The company's current CEO is Evan Edwards. Though Monster Energy is not widely advertised in the media it receives a large amount of recognition from its sponsorship of various sporting events. In 2006, Hansen Natural Corporation announced a distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch in the U.S.[1] and Cadbury-Bebidas, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico.[2] Hansen Natural Corporation has recently announced a distribution deal with PepsiCo Canada.[3] Monster Energy drinks are not Kosher.[4]
FlavorsWhen Monster debuted in 2002, the available flavors were "original", "Lo-Carb" , "Assault", and "Khaos". The "original" is packaged in a green color scheme, while "Lo-Carb" is packaged with a blue color scheme. "Assault," an assorted cola/berry flavor, is in a red, camouflage themed can. "Khaos" has a citrus flavor, and is packaged in an orange can. In 2007, the flavor "M-80" was introduced. It was packaged with a yellow color scheme. It had a mix of tropical and citrus flavors. This flavor was introduced along with slightly bigger cans, termed BFC (Big Fucking Can). The BFC contains 32 oz. of the drink, in comparison to the normal 16-24 oz. After the release of the BFC and "M-80", Monster introduced a new line of the drink called "Monster Java". These were all coffee flavored. There were three types at the time: "Mean Bean", "Big Black", and, "Loca Moca". In early 2008, two new flavors, "Mixxd" and "Heavy Metal" were introduced. "Heavy metal" only comes in a neon green 32 oz. can, and has a green apple taste only slightly different than that of the original flavor. "Mixxd" is packaged in purple cans and has a grape flavor. There are now different variations in cans with the original monster. For example, there is the Billabong XXL can (24 oz) in honor of the Billabong XXL surf contest. There is the BFC (32 oz), as well as MEGA MONSTER (24 oz), which is incredibly rare. During this time, Monster expanded their Java line by adding "Russian", "Irish Blend" , "Nut Up", "Lo-Ball", and "Chai Hai". This brings the "Java" line to a total of eight variants.
