Michael "Mikey Grab Bag" Palmice (pronounced Palm-E-See), played by Al Sapienza, is a fictional character on the HBO TV series The Sopranos.

Background

On The Sopranos, Mikey Palmice stared out as a made man in caporegime Corrado "Junior" Soprano's crew and was his chauffeur. When Junior became boss of the DiMeo crime family Mikey was promoted to consigliere of the family. Palmice's wife was named JoJo and he had two sons, Francis Albert and Michael, Jr. When acting boss Jackie Aprile was diagnosed with cancer and it was apparent he was going to die, Junior was quick to act to ensure that he became boss. Palmice wanted to take care of any opposition to Junior Soprano, including Tony Soprano and Christopher Moltisanti, in order to help Junior. He worked alongside Chucky Signore, who was another solider in Junior's crew. Mikey advised Junior to take care of business and not allow anyone to step over him. He killed Brendan Filone on Junior's orders to send a message to anyone who disobeyed him. Tony would beat up Mikey as retaliation for the hit and for Christopher's mock execution. Junior was eventually made boss of the family, but tension still remained because Tony was running things behind Junior's back. When Junior discovered that three of his capos (Tony, Jimmy Altieri and Larry Boy Barese) along with New York underboss Johnny Sack were meeting at Green Grove Retirement Community, he believed he was being conspired against and ordered Mikey to have Tony taken out. Junior had originally set the order in motion, but it did not work out, since Tony was able to survive the assassination attempt and even kill one of his assailants in self defense. Tony later decided to get rid of both Chucky and Mikey in order to cut Junior's ability to attempt another hit on him. Tony shot Chucky himself and Mikey Palmice was killed after Chris and Paulie Gualtieri chased him down while he was jogging. Mikey tried to blame all the recent events on Junior, but Chris did not relent. "My friend Brendan, you shot him in his bathtub naked, no chance to run." And with that, Paulie and Chris executed Mikey and left him dead in the woods. Junior and Joseph Sasso were spared only because they were arrested on RICO charges. Early news reports said it was believed that Mikey fled to avoid charges himself.

After death

In the episode From Where to Eternity, when Christoper is revived after being pronounced clinically dead from an assassination attempt he tells Paulie and Tony of a trip he made to hell, where he saw Brendan Filone and Mikey Palmice in an Irish bar and they had a message for Tony and Paulie: "Three o'clock". While not bothering Tony, this greatly upsets Paulie, who thinks Chris went to purgatory. Paulie visits a physic who "communicates" with dead people including ones Paulie murdered, giving information that he couldn't have known.

In Whoever Did This, Tony and Christoper take Ralph Cifaretto's chopped off head to be buried in Mikey's unnamed and hospitalized father's farm.

Al Sapienza's last appearance as Mikey Palmice was in the fifth season episode The Test Dream. Tony dreams he is riding in the backseat of his late father Johnny Boy Soprano's old cadillac. Other deceased Soprano Family members are Pussy Bonpensiero, Ralph Cifaretto, Richie Aprile, and Gigi Cestone. When Tony looks at Mikey and tells him he knows he's dreaming, Mikey replies, "I got no opinion. One way or the other." This is an ironic response because in life Mikey always had an opinion on something.
