John Michael Broadbent (born 2 May 1927 in Yorkshire, England) is a British wine critic, writer and auctioneer. He is a preeminent authority on wine-tasting and old wines.[1]
Broadbent trained as an architect but changed career and entered the wine trade in 1952. In 1960 he received the qualification of Master of Wine. From 1966 until 1992 he was the senior director of the wine department of the London auction house Christie's.[1] Apart from authoring many wine books, he was also regular contributor to the wine magazines Vinum and Decanter. Broadbent's services are also much in demand as a consultant on rare and old wines. In 1979 he was appointed Chevalier of the Ordre National du Mérite. Since 1986, he has been president of the International Wine and Food Society as well as an honorary member of the Académie du Vin de Bordeaux and numerous other French wine associations.
