The Mainalo Latin forms: Maenalos and Maenalus, rarely Maenalon, is a mountain range that spans about 15 to 20 from north to south (southwest of Tripoli to NE of Vytina) and from east to west from 5 to 10 km. (from Zygovisti to Kapsas. In the medieval times and until the late-20th century, the mountain was known as Apano Chrepa. It is also a village which is located in the mountain range and dates back to the ancient times. The mountain is home to the skiing resort, elevation being at 1,550 m. The panorama of the northern part of Arcadia and the Lyrkian mountains. There is a communications tower which broadcasts television and radio stations to Tripoli. The name of the mountain comes from a figure in Greek mythology. The mountain range is entirely surrounded by roads, the GR-74 runs around the Mainalo to the north and the east and a road linking Tripoli and villages W of Tripoli and to Vytina with a low speed limit is to the south and west. The western part west of Mainalo does not have much roads. The mountaintop which is also known as Ostrakia elevates at 1,860 m is in the northwest central part. Mainalo is also the tallest mountain in Arcadia. The highest mountaintop is named Profiti Ilia. The entire area is also a parkland.
The geography of the Panachaicus are forested between 800 m and 1,800 m with a type of pine trees in the central part including most of the eastern and the southeastern half. Areas over about 1,500 m are barren land in the central part and grasslands and rocks dominate the western part. Most of the mountain are forested. The mountain also has creeks and streams and a valley including one in the northeast with the road to the skiing resort. There are no valleys to the north or the southern part. The area also has forest roads.
The municipal boundaries lies in the middle of the range. Vytina is to the west and northwest, Levidi is to the north and northeast, Mantinteia to the northeast and east, Tripoli to the southeast and south and Davia to the southwest. On February 13, 2005, a tragic hiking accident occurred just 5 m below the top of the mountain. The weather was a blizzard and one of the climbers had no pathway but to follow that one which was the cause of this tragedy. Ambulance arrived at the area and the head? of Arcadia. Menalon is also a hotel in Tripoli and Menalos is also an ancient city where he lived in Mantineia.
