Cronquist systemThe Cronquist system used this name for one of six subclasses (within class Magnoliopsida = dicotyledons). In the original version of this system the circumscription was (1981):
In APG II, many of the plants involved are placed in the magnoliids. Dahlgren and Thorne systemIn the Dahlgren and the Thorne systems the name Magnoliidae is used for the dicotyledons. This is also the case in some of the systems derived from the Cronquist system. DahlgrenThe internal taxonomy in the Dahlgren system:

APG systemThe APG and APG II systems do not use formal botanical names above the rank of order. That is, these systems do not use names such as Magnoliidae. The APG magnoliids are effectively a more exactly circumscripted Cronquist Magnoliidae however.
