There are 22 public universities and 17 privately funded institutions in the Canadian province of Ontario that are post-secondary educational institutions with degree-granting authority. Each of these institutions were either established through an Act of the Legislative Assembly or through a Royal Charter. The oldest university was established in 1827, and the newest university was established on June 18, 2008 by the Ontario legislature.[1]
