Limanowa aspires to be a local administrative, economic, and cultural center. The town, located in the mountains, is well-prepared to receive tourists. In a local school, American students meet every year with their Polish peers during the summer holidays. Traveling to Limanowa is easy as it has connections with the main southern cities of Poland. The town is located on the secondary-importance rail line between Nowy Sacz and Chabowka.
During the Second World War there was a ghetto in Limanowa in which the German occupiers murdered 50% of Jewish population of Limanowa. There was also a refinery taken over by the Germans and being one of the main sources of oil for German army in this part of Nazi-controlled Poland.
