Leonardus ("Leo") Quirinus Machutus van Vliet (born November 15 , 1955 in Honselersdijk , Zuid-Holland ) is a retired road bicycle racer from the Netherlands , who was a professional rider from 1978 to 1986. He represented his native country in the men's individual road race at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada , where he finished in 40th place.
Van Vliet's biggest success was winning the 1983 edition of Gent-Wevelgem . He also won the seventh stage of the 1979 Tour de France . After his career he became the director of Holland's only cycling classic, the Amstel Gold Race . He is not related to another Dutch cyclist of the 1980s, Teun van Vliet .
