The Lada 110 (known in Russia as the AvtoVAZ 2110) is a Russian sedan car built by AvtoVAZ since 1996. It has spawned two close derivatives: the 111 estate and 112 hatchback. It was one of the first generation of Ladas produced after the fall of communism but before foreign investment and partnerships influenced the direction of AvtoVAZ.

History

Development of the 110 began in the early 1990s, with a prototype coupé called the Katran 1.6i that was first demonstrated at the AvtoVAZ Togliatti factory in 1991. A lack of financial investment stalled the project, but the design of this prototype was revisited around 1995 when work on the 110 series began, and a clear evolution of the Katran's shape to the 110 can be seen.1

The 110 enjoyed moderate sales success in the domestic Russian market; hindered by a number of recurring reliability problems with early models.

The 110 features a 1.6 litre engine producing approximately 90 hp (67 kW). Production began with 8 valve and subsequently 16 valve motors. The car weighs around 1050 kilos (2315 lb).

The Lada 110, 111 and 112 were lightly restyled in 2007 and relaunched as the Lada Priora.

Export markets

With the notable exception of the Britain and Ireland, the 110 has been sold in a number of countries in Europe - including France and Turkey.
