Sir John Salmond.

Sir John William Salmond, (3 December 1862 - 19 September 1924) was a legal scholar based in New Zealand and Australia.

He was the author of several legal texts:

• Jurisprudence or the Theory of the Law (1902)^[1]
• The Law of Torts (1907)^[2]
• Principles of the Law of Contracts (1927) with P. H. Winfield.^[3]

Salmond studied as a Gilchrist scholar at University College London.

He was professor of law at the University of Adelaide Law School from 1896 to December 1905.

In 1920, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of New Zealand. He represented New Zealand at the Washington Naval Conference from November 1921 to February 1922.

The Law Library at the University of Adelaide Law School is named in his honor.^[4]
