Biography

John Most, poet, was born Jonathan Eccard in Covington, Virginia, a small mill town in the Alleghany Mountains, the son of Emmitt and Sandra Eccard. His parents, both native Ohioans, moved to Virginia in 1971, where his father continued his work as a minister.

Most attended the University of Virginia and completed graduate work at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland where he studied with a variety of figures from philosophy, architecture, art, and film.

After arriving in New York City in 2003, he founded the little magazine Call: Review. Around the same time, his work began to appear in publications such as LUNGFULL! and Jacket.

At present, he is writing a series of thirteen poetry books, each of which will be written by a different character invented specifically for this project. The first two, Atelier and Persephone, were published by the alternative press AQP Collective.

In 2006, a complementary audio project was launched with the release of Persephone. In 2008, the second album, Atelier, was released. There are thirteen planned albums in total—one for every book in the series.

Most married Lynne Wesley in 2000.
